I recently purchased my first PSL, a Century 54-C, and my friend came over with his PSL to help me clean my gun prior to shooting it. I noticed when comparing the two rifles that the buttstock on my gun is only held on to the receiver with two screws on the top of the stock while my friend's gun has 3 screws holding it to the receiver (2 on the top of the stock and one drilled through the pistol grip on the bottom side). The buttstock on my rifle has 3 holes drilled into it and I even found an old, rusted washer in the third hole under the pistol grip cap when I removed it, but like I said, the receiver is not made with the hole for the third screw.
Is it normal for my rifle to only have the two screws or do I need to send it back to Century for repair? If this is normal, why the variation between the two rifles and is one option better for any reason than the other? |
| Most if not all of the most recent imports omit that screw (receiver manufacture date notwithstanding). It's not entirely necessary so long as the stock is tightly fitted. Usually, the "T"-nut will be in there, too. I drilled the hole and purchased a 6x1.0-50mm screw at the hardware store to "fix" mine. |

Was it difficult to drill the third hole? That's something I might consider doing. I'd love to see some pics of how yours came out... |
