Let me start by saying living in CT I had to register my post 94 guns, and I have 2 factory PSL registered in my name that I had never fired until last weekend.  So I made a huge mistake back when PSLs were cheap and sold off both stock sets and factory scopes.  The reason for this is that I'm 6'5" and the first of the 2 PSLs I added the Blackhorse Drag stock set and had planned to do the same to my 2nd PSL.  I replaced the scope with the Russian mount on gun #1 and added a Vortex Viper 2.5x10 scope.  Now that Blackhorse is not shipping their stocks, my second gun is naked waiting for me to decide what to do. So down to the issue.

I take my finished gun to the range last weekend and it shoots like TOTAL shit.  I didn't expect much but 14" groups at 100 yards..  Now this could be the scope mount, the ammo I had, or the gun itself.  I will try again with the MAKO mount I got for the other gun, but if it is the gun I need to figure out what to do.  Have it sent to rifle dynamics for a cut and crown (killing the value) or sell it and never have anything like it again???  Knowing I have a 2nd project gun to finish makes this even worse.  That and I have 4000rds of ammo for the 2 guns...

What would you do... and remember, buying a Vepr or Bulgy is NOT AN OPTION....

This is the finished one..

Well my first question is there any play with the scope whatsoever when it is locked down? To little tension on the scope has been the source of bad groups on psl's that I have seen.

Make sure the mount is seated properly and solid, make sure there is No play in the scope, check the rail and make sure it is level, check for a bent barrel or bullet strike. What ammo were you using and how much time between shots? How many rounds were fired before you started measuring groups?

I'd go back to a std scope and see how it shoots with it.

Doesn't seem to be any play in the mount.  I also stupidly opened a couple cans and these rounds that I took had paper packs of 20 and were silver tipped. I will try my Russian cans next time as I know they are 147gr.  I will also try the MAKO mount.  Does anyone think I should have the barrel cut?  Or just sell and be down one 7.62x54r rifle.

Just ordered a Blackhorse stock, thanks!

And a stupid question.  How's it shoot with the irons?

Mount the stock and optic on the second rifle and see if the problem follows them.

That is a great idea...  Nicely done...  I will post my findings if I ever make it to the range again.  One thing I did have to do was drill a pistol grip hole and hated to do that because I don't want to kill the value of these discontinued guns.

I would try and shoot the rifle off hand or sandbagged with irons and see where you get at 50 and 100yd. You should be able to zero it (if needed) and get typical AK accuracy out of it with irons. Try and eliminate the rifle itself as a problem. It's not like you're hurting for ammo.

Most people who have mounted a bipod on a PSL have not had great results with the bipod on the handguard like that. Mounting it to the receiver forward of the mag well is really the best way to go about doing it. The PSL barrel is relatively thin and deflects easily.
