My psl fired about 180 rounds of russian rimmed without a jam or problem but when picking up the spent shell casings I noticed on about 20 of the casings,a very slight bulging just ahead of the rim and a few of the cases had a crease or the beginning of separation in the same place. One case did actually split. Any thoughts on this regarding overpressures or headspace etc. Why on only some and not all ??

"slight bulging just ahead of the rim "

Have HS checked - while it's not the only cause, Excessive HS often exhibits itself by causing separations exactly where you have described.

Tested.... EXCESSIVE Headspace.... Was both stretching and expanding base of case beyond its ability to withstand. What a lesson... Always check headspace before firing.. I assumed the bolt was mated to this setup but after having removed and re-inserted the barrel, re-installing the barrel pin the headspace opended up by several thou... really bad.. but now fixed.

You made my day :)  Not because I was right - but because you are now shooting a safe gun :)  Happy Fathers Day :)
