I posted this question in another thread, but the thread got hi-jacked. Anyway, I'll try, again.
I put my paratrooper in a jungle stock. I cannot get the tiny pin back in the handguard/gas tube. Also, I can't get the trigger guard down if I leave the spring in the stock. So, those two parts are not on the rifle right now. My question is if there is a problem with this? I don't see the handguards coming off and I don't understand the spring except to pop up the trigger guard when you want to take it off. |

The spring exerts downward pressure on the trigger guard. The trigger guard transfers that pressure to the receiver through the retainer. The downward pressure holds the back of the receiver tight in the stock.
Is that spring necessary? IDK, but if the Soviets didn't think so, they'd have left it out. |

LOL, I was thinking that if it didn't matter it wouldn't be there, but I'll be damned if it is just too long. I thought of drilling the hole deeper, but I'm afraid of going too deep and coming out the top. Obviously, I don't trust my drilling. I had to dremel out the recess where the back of the trigger guard sits and believe me it is tight, without the spring.
Got any suggestions for that tiny pin in the handguard/gas tube? I just don't see how to get that little f@#ker back in. believe me I have mashed fingers to show for my effort. Almost lost it once, when it went flying. |

Measure the depth of the hole in the new stock. If the hole needs to be drilled deeper, mark the bit with tape using the original stock as a guide. hold the bit on the outside of the syock with the tape even with the bottom of the stock and make sure the bit won't come through the top. Drill the new stock with the drill at a slow speed and stop when you get to the tape. Got any suggestions for that tiny pin in the handguard/gas tube? I don't have any experience with this but you could try holding the pin with needle nose pliers and tapping it in that way. At least you won't hit your fingers. |

Replace the solid handguard pin with a double roll pin, the solid pins usually get buggered during removal. Buy a cheap roll pin set from Harbor freight I think it takes a 1/8, once the 1/8 is in put a 1/16 roll thru the center of the 1/8 roll pin and grind both exposed ends of pins flush.
Is the back of your recvr sitting flush in the stock or is it raised slightly forcing you to bend stock when trying to latch trigger guard ? You may need to do more stock fitting to get the trigger guard to lock. |

Man, thanks for the tips guys.
I will try the tape and measure thing to see if I can drill it deeper. Yes, I dremeled out the recess where the back of the trigger guard goes (over the top of the spring) so it level and the receiver will close. It is tight as hell, so I could probably dremel it out more, but it is pretty close. Like I said, it closes and the safety latch rotates freely. I will stop by Harbor Freight and pick up a set of roll pins. I thought about tyring to grind the buggered end down, get it in and grinding it flush. I might try that before going to Harbor Freight. I'll let you guys know. |

I knew you guys would have the answer. Did the tape and drill bit thing and got the spring in the stock and was able to get the trigger assembly closed. I was stoked.
Now for that little tiny pin in the upper handguard. I still don't see the need for it. Once the locking lever is down those handguards are not going anywhere, but I'll try to get it in or buy those roll pins from Harbor Freight. Hope to get her sighted in this week and soon maybe she will kill a hog or two. Thanks for the help guys. |
