Since AK74s aren't readily available I am considering the following wild idea:
1. Get a Firing Line AK74 milled receiver.
2. Buy a Bulgarian AK74 parts kit.
3. Get somebody to put it together that knows what they are doing.
Is this doable? Who would you recommend put it together?

well, despite the fact that no one ever built a milled a ak-74 (other than the stupid bulgarians and their wacko ideas about the rpk-74! heheh!). it can be done.

the firingline can custom bore you a receiver that's ready for the bulgy al-74 bbl.

an ak-47 buttstock will be required, of course. i'm sure ohio rapid fire or troy sellars at inrange could cobble one up for you.

but, i must ask why you don't just get in on the 'seak', ak-74 custom build group buy?

Last I enquired, The Firing Line had milled '74 recs in stock, though, that may have changed.

You would come out much better and cheaper using an OOW receiver and a Bulgarian kit.But as Campy said, why not look into the SEAK?

If you really want a milled smallbore AK, fine with me. But consider that the price difference between OOW and Firing Line is about what a good pro build will cost you ($200-250).

If ORF will build a milled AKS receiver.... I will gladly pay the extra money for it!!!

To answer campy's question:
1. I like a heavy gun.
2. I want green furniture.
3. It doesn't really matter to me if my rifle is historically correct.
4. I might be able to trade an AR lower I have laying around for the AK receiver thus reducing my cash outlay.
5. The Ohio Conspiracy Theory. Has anybody noticed the SEAK rifles are built at OHIO Rapid Fire on a OHIO Ordnance Works receiver and that campy is from OHIO. The SEAK project is just a vehicle for Ohioans to rule the world.
