I sighted in at 100 yards with my ak47. It had a muzzle nut. I changed it out to a slant brake and went shooting again. Now it's 6 inches high and 8 inches to the right. Is this normal when switching out brakes?

Very common to see a POI shift when changing muzzle devices.

That's been my experience.

Same thing can happen when you change ammo brands/bullet weight.

Thanks guys , I've always heard that poi could happen. I never expected such a large change though because of a slant break. I've got he muzzle nut back on and will try it out again Monday.

If you think about it, the POI change verifies that the slant brake is working. The brake is cocked about 40 degrees right and its designed to force gas pressure in that direction to push the muzzle left and down. The side effect is that gas under the bullet pushes the bullet up and right - 'equal and opposite reaction', etc. I can't think of another kind of brake that will cause such a dramatic shift in POI.

So I put the muzzle nut back on and took my rifle shooting. It's dead on again. I was able to ring a 12" wide by 36" tall steel target at 200 yards with consistency. Thanks guys.
