Perhaps the best Chinese AK you can buy. Make sure it says: Kengs Firearms Specialties out of Atlanta(KFS).

If it does not say Keng's, it isn't a Poly.

Also, the PolyTech Legend is definately considered on of the best AK's period. The legends will have a milled receiver.

B_L,
Not entirely true...

Other compaines did import "386" rifles just not in the quantity that Kengs did.

Other than that I agree with B_L.

Value depends, on quite a few things... stamped/milled, pre/postban, fixed/folder.... we need some more info please.

Hey thanks for answering so soon guys.  I had to break it out to look and see what it is to be sure . It's a KFS AKS-762SP Stamped  reciever it looks per ban ( not totally sure)Its a fixed dragonoff type black synthetic stock . NIB never fired . I bought it and forgot about it. Picked it up new at a show back in 97 at the time I couldn't pass the deal up. Maybe one day I'll shoot it. If anything I like the looks of it ,thats one of the reasons I got it . Thanks again

"Its a fixed dragonoff type black synthetic stock ."

post-ban rifle caught in u.s. customs just as the hammer came down. these sold new for $350 in my area and are very nice rifles.

other tips...bayo ground off, muzle nut welded to the fsb to defeat the muzzle threads underneath.

Yeah, definately the POST-ban version.  Still a great rifle though...

I should have clarified myself by saying all PRE-ban Poly's are Kengs.

B_L,
Kengs brought in about 98% of them but GSAD(Golden State Arms Dist in CA) and Sile(in NY) also sold preban factory 386 rifles. Also remember the "pre-Claycos"...the grandpappy of all prebans was factory 386(ca. 1984). Polytechnologies, and Norinco were just exporters for factories 386, and 66 respectively.

There are discussions about this on Tantal's site if you need further confirmation.

Where exactly on his site please? Post a link if you will to the exact location.
The "other" AK site has never mentioned this as far as I know. I would like to read more about it.

Wasn't it Kengs then that asked for specific configurations on these rifles?

here is one:
kalashnikov.guns.ru/wwwboard/board5/messages/5126.html
That place is sorta difficult to navigate thru, I will try to find a GSAD refrence...these were the guys I forgot about.

Yes, Kengs became the "Top Dog" for Polys, prior to them becoming a major player, there slight diffrences in the type 56 being imported.
iirc one of their major outlets was Ivanhoe's...anybody else remember the good ole' days? wasn't it also thru Ivanhoe's that all the early .223s had to be recalled due to headspaceing issues.

edit here is one they are talking about GSAD ..notice how they are talking about the folding bayonet...I have NEVER heard of a Norinco with a "pigsticker"boards.guns.ru/ultimate/Forum13/HTML/000036.html but not the one I am looking for, I will keep looking...
