My buddy wants to sell me his Polytech AK 47 sidefolder. It all looks legit except for the fact I don't find an importer mark and it's got a funky non-AK looking muzzel break. MB looks flat, not angeled like most and it 's not removable I don't think. I own a Yugo underfolder, but I'm no expert by any means. Is this side folder a "pre-ban"? CS prefix and a circled "386", no bayo. Thanks for the help.

If the MB is flat to the end of the barrel, it's called a thread protector. I had a Poly sidefolder thet came from the factory just like it. It's there just to protect the threads. Mine was also stuck in place & needed help to come off.  GARY  N4KVE

Did you like your sidefolder? Thanks.

Yeah. It was the model with the red plastic furniture. But I sold it because it was unfired & too nice to shoot. I prefer to own shooters that are not hi end. Good gun though.  GARY  N4KVE

My friends has no red furniture on it, just wood with a checkerd grip and nothing on the folding stock. Also, just a barrel nut, no suppressor. He wants a grand, seems a bit high, but I'm cheap. Probably couldn't pound a needle up my ass with a hammer, I'm leary of the price. Thanks for the good feedback.

Then it looks like this one then...

is pricey, but then again, a preban Polytech AK-47 tends to be pricier than most,; maybe you can talk him down to $800, which I think is good. Just my .2 cents.

Because it looked new, had the original blue finish, the plastic had no scratches, the folder opened & closed easily & had no wobble, it had the original box & instruction manual, the mags were still wrapped in the original plastic, & had the Polytech stickers on them, the styrofoam in the box was perfect. I never said it shot well, just that it was a great gun.  GARY  N4KVE

Yes Black-Tiger, it looks just like that one, but a bit used. Good buy for a grand? Hmm, I've got a nice Yugo UF that I can toss in the snow to cool off the hot barrel, hate to spend a bunch on a semi-rare peice (pre-ban). Do you guys like the sidefolder stock better than the UF stock, as far a comfort to shoot? Thanks guys

Look on the barrel after removing the piston tube and handguard. At one time the BATFE permitted importers to mark rifles there.
