They claim that milled recievers have the trunnion and reciever combined, but it looks like it's seperate on my Polytech Legend. I also hear the barrel is press and pinned and not threaded.

I've never seen a milled AK with trunnion rivets.  Does yours not have a barrel pin?

The barrel is pressed and penned according to what I've heard. The replacement barrel I have is also for press and pinned recievers.

Maybe I don't understand your point.  Are you saying that your rifle is something other than a standard Legend, or are you asking for confirmation of what you've heard?

If your rifle doesn't have rivets holding the trunnion in the receiver then it is like every other milled AK I've ever seen and the trunnion is actually milled as part of the receiver.  This isn't possible on a stamped receiver which is why the trunnion is a separate milled part that is riveted in place.

Every commercial Chicom AK I've seen had a pressed and pinned barrel.  The pin is visible just ahead of the charge handle in this picture.  If your appears the same then it is pressed and pinned.  If it lacks this pin then it is threaded.

As an interesting aside, China also made the "Polytech Legend" rifles in fully automatic for export, as well, which also had pressed and pinned barrels with the pin noticeable on the left/right of the milled receiver.  The selector markings had the Chinese characters, too.

Thank you. You answered my question. It is a bit dissapointing they didn't build the PL to accept a threaded barrel.

It actually is.  The Chinese built their true military Type 56 rifles (the ones with milled receivers) with threaded barrels.  After those days passed and they went to manufacturing the Type 56 (on a stamped receiver), then ultimately the Type 81, they revisited building the milled receiver for commercial sales purposes and called it the Polytech Legend.  They used the press and pin method on them as it sped up production and was cheaper to make them that way.  Unfortunately, it later was disapointing for the collector types that wanted more correct aesthetics.  But then again, the Polytech Legend also has the incorrect "two-rivet/hole" trigger guard whereas the true Chinese and Russian/Eastern European milled rifles have a "four-rivet/hole" trigger guard.

As a side note, the Polytech Legend was actually made by the Chinese to represent the Russian Type III, hence the "Legend" part in the name.  They just made them in the most efficient and inexpensive manner they could.  One will also note the use of the actual Chinese military milled rifle front sight base on the Polytech Legend - use of the rifle as a Russian Type III clone would require a change-out of that distinctive front sight base to an actual Russian/Eastern European milled rifle front sight base.  The Chinese one is slightly different in style.

Now that I think about, I can't say I've ever seen a civie milled AK without a press and pinned barrel.

Some were made later, but there's not a whole lot of them.

If you're so inclined, you can always have the pin welded over and smoothed out, and the rifle or that area of the rifle refinished so the weld gives the illusion of no pin there.  However, it's difficult to get it perfect.
