I've found a Chinese pre-ban AK in .223 that has caught my attention, for about $800.00 (no folding stock though) pin on break and scope mount that seems to attach to receiver under the pistol grip. Anyway, my main question is what willthe sunset do to its value, as well as the value of other "pre-sunsets" as I shall call them (or how 'bout "post-prebans")? I personally anticipate the following, 1. a steady decline to just before September followed by a drastic drop due to people attempting to get rid of their pre-sunsets who bought them as an investment. 2. slight rise and stabilization due to market of gun owners that put a special clasification on "pre-sunsets". Any thoughts? |

The pin-on break sounds odd to me as well. I had a pre-ban 84s (.223 Norinco). It, and every other pre-ban .223 I've seen came with a flash suppressor that used the std AK threads. I'd be suspect of the rifle until you find out more. What are the markings? Maybe someone would know here. Anyway to your actual question. The sunset will only apply to guns with enough US parts in them to be US guns. A post-ban MAK-90 with all the Chinese parts would still be a post-ban gun (it's a different ban) and would still need to stay a post-ban unless you added the US parts. I think the price of true pre-bans will decline somewhat, due to the evil feautre attraction not being as important. I don't think it will until after the sunset. I think that then there will be a short time of pretty wild pricing (high and low) and it will stabilize out. Ross |

I have a friend that just picked up a preban fixed stock Chinese .223 for $700. He sent it down to Ted Marshall in Tucson to be converted into a krink. I begged him to wait until after September to do it but he couldn't wait. I plan to do the same thing after September but will save $500 by waiting until after the ban expires and using a US receiver. |
| Well Im back into the AK bussiness again after selling my 3 Romanians...picked up a fullstock preban Polytech in original box and all the goodies for $650.00, has the folding bayonet. Gun looks unfired. I was going to buy one of the Bulgarian or Hungarian AKs for the same price....I'll take the PolyTech AK anyday. I feel like I was pretty lucky. |

...poor english on my behalf sir. I still am taking dollars to doughnuts bets that at the last minute something happens to extend its life! Trust me....they never give the rights back after they take them away! It is in the democrats best interest to let this this dormant until the last minute. |
As much as I hate to agree with you, I am a little cynical that it will be that easy too. A lot can go wrong in six months. Look what they did to S659... I don't think anyone saw that coming. At this point it is kind of like spending your money before you win the lottery. But I know I love to fantasize as much as the next guy. |

Theres no way the prices of preban AKs will go down...only up. Theres only so many here and thats it. Went to the Big Reno Gun Show this morning, I was looking for a new norinco under folder, Last show there were about 5 of them. Not 1 here this time but I did make a great score on a Norinco PreBan full stock with the bayo and 6 mags in .223. Gun only had 60 rds fired out of it. Paid $725.00 out the door. Now it can keep my preban Ploytech company and they can talk to each other in there native language LOL. |

Well, I guess the main thing-besides the bell and whistles (accessories) on the weapon is that it was mfg'd in China! BTW If you can prove your ownership prior to the ARBs passage-It would be classified as a paramilitary not a pre-ban AK weapon. I.E. it qualifies as a standard AK semi-auto assualt weapon grandfathered by the 94 ARB law. |
