I just drove 2 hours round trip to go get a AK---. I had my mind set on a N-PAP but when i felt that buttstock my god it felt like I was holding a 6x6 post so I went with a Polish AK imported by IO. Got home with it and I see this.. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll239/shadowsoulrocks/0801141745a_zps0a68b3f7.jpghttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll239/shadowsoulrocks/0801141745b_zps01a554b3.jpg

Should of done a little more research here, multiple threads on I.O. AKs in the 1st and 2nd page here. I'm gonna say, that could be a problem.

Hopefully it is just a casting mark, and not a crack.

Downright depressing hearing the Poles are making AK's IO style.

Oh it's a crack....I hate being a burden on my local LGS.. I have been a pest the past few weeks trying to make up my mind. And now this,,, I had a Inter-arms in front of me. The NPAP, but my god like I said that buttstock is like a 6x6 post.. and this Polish.. I went the wrong route.. I know they will take care of me just a hassle to drive back..

There's a video on Pioneer Arms Youtube page that shows them using the barrel to buck the front trunnion rivets. Just because they're made in Radom, doesn't mean they're up to FB Radom's quality.

Do not shoot . Return to seller. Get the gun you really wanted and EXAMINE it very well before leaving the shop. jmtcw

Threads ALL over about IO....and yet they are still selling them....wow....I had one once...BNIB and bent from the word go....carrier would barely cycle on the rails...

Are you sure it not a casting mark?  Never seen a crack in that location, especially extending outward like that.

Drimel time if it grinds out its a cast mark. If not buy a new bolt carrier online. Or do the return it thing already suggested.

They are made in Radom, Poland.. but Pioneer Arms isn't FB Radom.  These rifles aren't made by the military arms factory.

The barreled receivers are imported and then finished out with whatever parts IO throws in them.  The cast bolt carriers look pretty rough.  These rifles just scream of being built as cheaply as possible.

Return it, get the NPAP, go to the marketplace over on Akfiles and buy a surplus m70 stock, swap the stocks. Problem solved.

Good point! Swapping out the stocks...
8/1/2014 7:08:34 PM EDT
[#16]
The surplus stocks are....well....surplus, so they don't look as nice as the  NPAP wood, but  you can stain them to match. Or better yet, buy matching surplus hand guards for that BFPU look. Surplus stocks vary quite a bit in price from seller to seller, but I'm suggesting this option to you because there happens to be a guy right now selling them fairly inexpensively. An m76 stock will also work, and it has a much lower comb than either the m70 or NPAP, but I haven't seen any pop up for sale in the last month or so. Like the m70s, the m76s vary in price and availability.

Take it back, tell them it is cracked and you want an Npap.  You're right, the Npap stock is awful, I tried to sand the hump down but it was still uncomfortable to shoot compared to an Opap.  On AK files there is a guy selling M72 stocks for $50, looks just like an M70 stock, I ordered one of them.  Much more comfortable to shoot and looks better.  The Npaps are first rate AKs, a number of them including mine have had canted rear sights, if you are getting one from a gun store look at them and pick out one that is straight.

BULLSHIT. You're suggesting someone grind on an unfired gun, his LGS will take back.   If that's a crack and went through QC as APPROVED. There's other shit wrong with it.

IF the OP wants to remove the finish, for damage verification, it should be done in front of the LGS manager.

No I'm not doing anything to it..The crack goes about half way thru the metal... Even if it's a casting mark "whatever that's supposed to be" I'm not that educated in AK's. it's still visible to he eye and you can feel it.. I know better to mess with it and then take it back and go Duh can you help me...

Good for you. FWIW: next time you want input/ advice, post in GD.   Too bad you have to spend another few hours of driving. You call the shop to say, you're heading back.

I hope the OP is on a first name basis with the LGS owner. I have worked for 3 different gun stores, & the most any would do is send the gun back to IO for repair on the OP's dime. [shipping charges] Good luck on getting them to exchange it.  I'd call first to not waste the gas for a 2 hour ride. GARY

Huh, never heard of them when I was stationed in Lejeune... and I drove ALL over Eastern NC to check out gun shops. Are they new?

ETA nice Zastava. I picked up an NPAP underfolder a while back and love the thing.

Hmmm been in business for at least a year and half.. I found them thru a Marine I knew. I went there back right after the school shooting and his majesty started talking his talk of gun control and overnight everything was gone and if you did find it you paid inflated prices. When I went to Guerrilla Armament back then they has all kinds of AR parts, ammo,PMags,USGI Mags and their prices was not inflated.. Since then I have been a loyal customer.

Nice. I guess it doesn't have to be that new... I haven't been in that neck of the woods since '07.

I'm getting old.

So they exchanged the gun for you? That is excellent, as most stores would have said to just send it back to the mfr, as all sales are final. I hope the locals in that neck of the woods support this place.  GARY

You did good getting rid of the Pioneer one and getting that Yugo.  Interesting muzzle break, did it come like that?  Now get you a bunch of Yugo mags, I think SG ammo still has some.  If not I know APEX has some.
