I had been wanting to get an AK for quite some time now but all I'd seen in the local shops were WASR types. From what I'd read here, these seemed to be less desirable. Yesterday I found an AK at a local shop but its configured differently than most. I searched through this board and got some info but still have a few questions. Maybe someone here can help me out. Its marked: ARSENAL Model SLR95 D.I.G. VA. BCH. VA. Made in Bulgaria BA 36 4XXX (these last four digits also appear on the bolt and carrier) All appearing on the left hand side of a milled receiver. This appears to be in a pre-ban configuration, that is, a thumb hole stock like I remember the MAK90's having except in a black composit, and a pinned compensator. Can it be fitted with conventional furniture? Took it home, cleaned it and went to the range where it shot much better than I'd been lead to believe AK's shoot. As I'm sure you fella's have heard many times before from other noobs, I really like this gun. |

It's actually 'post-ban', it was made after the 1994 assault weapons ban. If it were pre-ban it would have a pistol grip stock, bayonet lug and threaded barrel. But you got a fantastic rifle. The SLR-95 is one sweet rifle and getting pretty valuable these days. By the serial code I believe yours was made in 1997. |
DOH, it was pretty early here in NC when I posted that, I have a general rule about not trying to communicate before my second cup of coffee, but I'm kind of excited about this. Glad you understood what I meant, thanks. So it was made during the ban. |
