I am attempting to remove the hammer pin from a MAK 90 (stamped receiver) and have encountered a problem. After a field strip, I removed the trigger pin and group, safety, and “shepherd’s crook” retaining wire, but the hammer pin just won’t come out.
While removing the trigger pin, I managed to move the hammer pin about 1/16 inch due to finger pressure alone, but now it will not move out (to the left) or in. As it is in a bushing, I do not think it is bound up by pressure from the hammer spring. Any suggestions? Have I done anything wrong? I have never worked on an AK before, so I have no experience with this part. Right now I have applied some liquid wrench. The only advice I have received is “give it a really big hit with the correct size punch and a big hammer.” What must I do? |
| The pins have a groove in them on the side with the big head. The groove is what the retaining wire you removed goes into. Look at the trigger pin you have removed to see what I am talking about. The pin will move up due to the hammer springs pressure and will cause the groove in the pin to catch the edge of the hammer pin hole. You just need to push down the hammer a bit an move things around to get the pin out. You DONT NEED TO HIT IT WITH A BIG HAMMER TO DRIVE IT OUT. |
