Hey everyone, first post here after my first day with my Vector AK.  It was fun through the first magazine, then my day became very frustrating...ht
I would be able to shoot through maybe 3-5 rounds, and then a misfire.  There was a clear indent where the hammer struck, and it looked clean.  I eventually gave up, as I couldn't shoot more than 5 rounds without one not working.

Now I suppose there could be a problem with the hammer or something else as it was my first time shooting the gun...but I'm more inclined to think I got big box of duds. her
EDIT:  This is posted later on in the thread but the gun was the problem.  Now I'm shooting GT with no problems at all.

i havent tried that stuff.. ive only fired SAPSAN, wolf, wolft mil classic, winchester, and some plain white box ammo and never had a misfire ever...

come to think of it.. ive never had a misfire in any of my firearms. that is besides the 22 cal, but seriously that donest count

I think most have been happy with Golden Tiger from what I've read.  I recently bought 2000 rounds and fired 80 rounds thru my AK with no problems.

Golden Tiger has pretty hard primers I have had no problems with it in my guns I did have to change my pin in a yugo sks from a stock free floating  to a murrays  spring and pin (budget) and that took care of my problem but you should not have that problem with your ak I belive it's not free floating.

No problems with Golden Tiger for me (yet).  I too bought 2k rounds and used 200.  60 through my Arsenal and 140 through my Romanian.

Its likely not relevant but I did have to change the hammer spring on my Vector
built on a Polish kit right after I got it. It seemed to have occasional light primer hits and also had trigger slap even though it had a G2 trigger. I called Vector and they sent out a hammer spring so I didn't have to send in the gun.

Of course, I would try some other ammo first to be sure that its not a bad batch of Golden Tiger.

I think you just got a crappy lot.  I bought 1000 rounds of GT from AIM Surplus about a month ago and fired 340 through my Romanian.  Ran like a champ, and for the price I can't complain.

Never had or heard of any problems with it.

That is a VERY high rate of duds for any brand of ammunition, especially for one with such a good reputation as GT. I'd be looking at the rifle first....

You've probably already tried this, but I've not had any trouble with FTF's on hard, milspec primers after I dismantled the AK's bolt and got the old grease off it.

Sounds like great training ammo to me. Malfunction clearance drills galore. Check out the rifle, and if it works with other ammo, use the GT for training.

I've been through almost 1000 rounds of GT now in a Yugo SKS and Romy AK (mostly the AK), no problems.

Remove the bolt assembly and shake it. If the pin doesn't rattle freely back and forth then you may have some grease or cosmoline packed inside. Clean with kerosene and compressed air.

Try a box of different ammo to determine if it is a rifle problem or a ammo problem (or a combination of only YOUR rifle and THAT ammo).

Have another shooter fire a few rounds of your ammo in their AK/SKS/Mini30 and report.

Vectors are GREAT builds but remember they are using 30+yo used parts from cut up guns so a bad spring or out of spec firing pin may not be beyond possibility.

Is that true about the age of vector parts? 30+ years old sounds excessive...

I believe the original Polish guns were made in the 1970s. Honestly, I do not know for sure. Does anybody have a reliable source for this information?

Should be a rifle issue.  Way to many to be an ammo issue..  unless the ammo was made in Pakistan....

All the polish kits I have seen have been mid to late 70's.  So a minimum of 30 years old is a good guess.

A batch of 1000 rounds of Golden Tiger bought from AIM last spring yielded multiple pierced primers, the debris from which locked up both of my SKSs and damaged the bolt in one enough so that it required replacement. Rounds from the same batch fired fine in my AK, but I did find primer debris in the gun.

Bought 4k at Knob Creek and have fired about 1.5k without a single malfunction.

Check the firing pin tunnel as the pin is free floating and grease etc can slow/bind it.

Take out your bolt and shake it.  The firing pin should move freely.  Use brake cleaner and hose out the firing pin tunnel to remove debris.  Remove firing pin and clean tunnel with bore brush if brake cleaner doesn't work.  Check Romanian web page on how to dismantle bolt.  The firing pin tunnel can be packed with grease, metal shavings etc....    Hope this helps.

Been moving into my apartment...I'm having the guys at Vector look at the gun as it is covered in the warranty.  When I get my hands back on it (which may not be for a while) I'll try and let you guys know.  I'm pretty sure it's not the GT, but we'll see.

For the record if it bothers you any Parrandero, I fully paid for the gun but had my dad purchase it for me...didn't know a 19 year old could buy one.

I had one or two fail to fires in my first range trip out with GT, in my SAR1.  Didn't keep me from getting another case though.

Both of the SKSs affected had Murray firing pins and firing pin return springs.

Golden  tiger 762x39  and  545x39  have  alwasy  worked  great  for  me  . Accurate  also. Does  sound  like a rifle  issue  to  me  also.  Parts  guns  sometimes  dont  work  right  form  the  beginning  and  need  work  to g et  them  right.

I've fired roughly 1k of G.T. in my Yugo SKS and WASR-10, nary a hiccup or harprimer. All rounds feed reliably, no extraction problems, and the accuracy was spot on if not better than Wolf Poly Performance Black Box. I have probably only 500 left of my Golden Tiger, I'm hoping to come across some more reasonably priced GT down the road, but that probably won't happen...

I've fired a few hundred golden tiger rounds through my WASR and have never had a problem. In fact I don't think I've ever had any ammo not feed perfectly through my cheapass AK.

Just reporting back to this thread as I said I would...

Got my gun back from Vector; they said they test fired 90 rounds through it without problems, which was more than I ever could.  So I took it to the range today, fired maybe 10-12 mags worth and didn't have a single misfire.

So it's safe to say GT wasn't the problem (they changed out my bolt), and I'll be buying more of it if it keeps a good price.

I  never  had  functioning  problems  with  GT.  BUt  , like  All  Russian  ammo  except  Silver  bear,  it  shoots  to  the  left    about  3  inches  in  my  Norinco  AK. Chinese  ammo  right   down  the  middle  and  Hungarian  and  Silver  Bear  good  in  the  windage  department  also.

I observed a 12 in point of impact difference today between GT and Wolf Lacquered black box.  Windage didn't change though.  Other then that is was OK.

You bought it all, right?

ETA: Are you 100% sure it was 1,000 rounds and not 500?
