I've got an Arsenal Bulgaria SLR-105 (AKS-74 clone) and suddenly have a need for a spare gas tube.  I don't need one with a handguard, I just need the gas tube and accompanying leaf-spring/retaining-spring (not completely sure what that part is called).  I'm having trouble tracking down a Bulgarian 74 gast tube and am curious as to whether a Plain Jane AKM gas tube would work OK on this rifle.

Basically, I have two different stock sets and I'd like to have the option to switch between the two if I want to without having to remove the upper handguard from the gas tube every time.  And while I'm at it, anyone have an idea of where to procure a gas tube?  Anybody off hand that has them in stocks and sells them?  I try to avoid Gunbroker any time I can find something elsewhere.

I'm not 100% so my answer doesn't matter.

But hope this helps  Rusmilitary

It will work, but an AKM gas tube, unlike a Bulgarian AK-74, will not have a tensioning spring and will prove to be noisy due to rattle.

I couldn't remember off hand whether the tensioning spring was on the gas tube or the sight block/front trunnion.  The Rusmilitary link, while a great place to go, is located in the UK.  Also, Oleg pretty much scores an F- in the communication department.  Combine this with having some pretty high prices (even for those living in England) and I pretty much try to avoid doing business with him.  Although, he can certainly get his hands on stuff I can't find anywhere else.  I've done business with him in the past and I currently have a stock set ordered from him that must be tied up in customs or something because it made its way to NY a week ago and I still don't have it.

Anywho, anyone that can chime is as to where to procure a 74 gast tube that will fit please let me know.

k-var sells just the tension spring, IIRC they don't fit an AKM gas tube with a little bit of filing on the tube. Also try apex, they have a slew of 74 kits, and I'm sure they have a 74 gas tube. I do the same thing myself between my plum and poly sets, and my wood sets. Good luck!

Wow Nictra, I should have known that was how you make it look like you have 50 different rifles, all configured differently!  It's genius!  I'll check out Apex.  Thanks for the heads up.

lol! I have 3 7.62 rifles, 1 - 74 and 1 krink.  Some of the pics are of my old rifles I sold along the way. Apex had awesome customer service and pretty good prices too. I prefer to deal with them when they have what I'm looking for.

I checked with Apex.  Even Rusmilitary doesn't have 74 gast tubes.  He only has 47/AKM gas tubes.  So the search continues....

Is there a difference between an AK47 and a AK74 gas tube?

I'm no authority, but I seriously doubt theres a difference. I believe the 47/74 use the same piston and gas tube. Countries do this for parts interchangeability whenever possible.
