It sounds like it's pretty hard to get things back to the states now from Iraq etc but as far as kits go if the rules were more lax like they were say 30 or 40 years back would it be pretty easy to get most of a kit back or once it got here would it still be considered illegal if it was say a true Russ AK?

Basically what's the legality of importing parts etc?

from what i understand, its not against army regs as long as you go through the right channels, but it is however against US customs law.  according to customs you cannot import any weapons, ammo, implements of war, ect. from iraq, just like how we cant get stuff from china anymore

You could do a Form 6 but the real issue is Iraq and Afghanistan are listed countries.  And, unless you happen to have the time there to get one approved and somehow manage to be able to mail it through a DHL, UPS, or FedEx, it likely isn't leaving either of those countries.  No guns or gun parts.
