I bought a "excellent condition" 74 from RGuns. Im not all that impressed as I think its been refinished, all except for the bolt and bolt carrier. I thought I read someone here describe them as new. Thats not nearly as bad as the IO Inc FAL kits I bought years ago which were dipped in black paint and sold as new. I paid the 20% restocking and never did business with them again.

One question though: the bolt has a groove that extends from the cutout for the ejector towards the center of the firing pin. Is that OK? Check a pic (best out of a half dozen, sorry I could do better)

I think I should have opted for the brand new ORF kits. Any other opinions?

I've never experienced any issues with rguns but...... as I only live a couple of hours away I typically have the opportunity to have the product in my hand before I buy it. There is plenty of documentation floating around that they may pull the bait-and-switch scheme from time to time.

Of all the kits I've bought, including the heavey used kits from Century, I've never seen on that pitted.

how much hand finishing have you had to do between the rec rails and the chamber, i am almost finished with my 1st build(Romanian) and i had to do quite a bit of polishing to have the chamber close, it is hand cycling now, have to pin the gas piston and should be ready to check headspace.

that bolt is in no way new
but i dont see anythang wrong with it

as for the finish
dont pay more for one with a good finish
if given the choice ill take a well used good condition rifle over a like new one
they cost less and function better and most people refinsh them anyway

btw if they just threw some paint on it the paint will prolly come off with brake cleaner
bulgi finish wont

Don't see anything wrong with it? Other than it's at the end of it's useful lifespan, yeah, it's perfect. Notice those pits in a circular configuration around the firing pin hole. That ain't just from shooting corrosive ammo. It erosion caused by gas leaking by the primer. That bolt is very near to being toast.

Too bad about your kit.  I got a fairly nice one from R-guns about a week again.  My builders building it now.

That bolt is not anywhere near "excellent" condition.  Talk with the vendor to see what they are willing to do.
