First off, I'll have pics up soon.
Now that we've gotten beyond the where are the pics stage, I took my new Yugo M70Ab2 to the range today. First thing I did, was loose the black handguards, and throw on a wood set I got from Apex. Instant improvement. Then I took her to the range. Possibly the most accurate AK Variant (7.62x39) I have shot. It shot tighter groups than my Saiga and my buddies Arsenal. This might be a shock to some, but I have to include the Arsenal has around 11k rounds down the pipe. I am really impressed with the gun, being a century build. I swore off CAI guns after my tantal fiasco, but this is a keeper. For a gun with non matching serials, its a tack driver. Busting clays at 100 - 200 yards qualifies as a combat accurate gun in my book, so I have no complaints. It did get warm, but what AK doesn't. It made me think about putting a rail system / grip on it, however, I am more traditionalist when it comes to AK's. This will be a decision I will fight in my mind....(unless someone has pics of a railed M70). Overall 250 rounds down range, no issues of any kind. There was one interesting part of my purchase. The gun came new from the shop with a Yugo 30 rounder with the bolt hold open feature, and a 40 round of unknown make. The 40 rounder seems light and dinky so I assume its one of the Korean mags I've heard about. No real issue as I have plenty of Romanian mags which all functioned 100% On a 1 - 10 scale, I'd give the Yugo M70 a "8" on the value, quality, and accuracy of the gun. Just my $.02 |

The century grip is still on there.
I have a Hogue on the way.....so comfy. I was using a mix and match group of ammo. All shot standing. 1.) Wolf FMJ, non lacquer on primer and bullet, shot fine. 4-5 inch groups at 100 yds 2.) Yugo surplus ammo, this stuff is hot. 4-5 inch groups @ 100yds 3.) Winchester White box, smallest group of the day 3.78 inch @ 100 yds. I consider this pretty good for an AK, if I wanted to be boring and bench shoot a rifle I'd get an AR . If the SHTF and the Russians / Cubans landed in Nashville ( Red Dawn Style ) I'd hold my own....until more landed.
I boresighted the gun this afternoon once I got home, and adjusted the sights accordingly. Most people neglect this step, thus the "AK's cant hit anything myth, mostly from WSAR owners" I have 1k of Wolf that's getting shot tomorrow at the farm, so I will go prone (resting front of gun on my bugout bag) and see what I can get out of this bugger. I am going to avoid the Yugo ammo from here on, as I leave the corrosive cleaning to the 5.45 guns I have. While its good ammo, I feel that I get the same results with the Wolf so I'll stick to that. I didn't find the UF stock uncomfortable, kinda like it. I was considering the LaRue IronDot for it, but I am going to stick to irons as I feel they do the job. I would like to get a smaller case / bag for this, anyone have any good suggestions? I need something that will fit in my bat bag I use for transport. I've seen the Russian / Polish / Chicom drop cases here on the pic threads, but can't seem to find them anywhere. |

I just ordered a set of the wood handguards from Apex as well. How does yours look cant really tell in your pics? Are they all beat up or are they in good condition for refinishing? Mine were in pretty good shape. I used 220 grit sandpaper to go over them, 6 coats of boiled linseed oil, two coats wipe on poly. I'll get better pics tomorrow. |
