Ok I am bummed out I can not find a decent Ak that fits my criteria
Ban Version
Stamped Receiver
In 5.56 caliber
Uses Bulgarian Mags

Here is my question
Can I get an Armoy 1.6mm receiver and place it on a KVAR Bulgarian 5.56 parts kit? I know the parts kit is designed for a milled receiver, what would be required to complete this or is it totally non feasable?
Thanks

The milled reciever has the trunnion and the rear stock attachment built (milled) into the receiver itself. A stamped receiver is only the receiver. At first glance you will be missing the trunnion, stock attachment  and possibably the bullet guide. The barrel will be 1mm over sized to fit in a stamped trunnion and would have to be turned down. After the price of K-var's milled parts kit, gunsmithing time to turn the barrel, new trunnion and rear stock attachment, and stamped reciever, you are probably approching the cost of the Arsenal 106.

Have you given a converted Saiga a consideration?

Well I am looking for a 5.56 rifle that has reliability.
I owned a SAM-5 but the extra pound from the milled receiver seemed a bit much.
I dont like the ideal of having rig the magazine to make it function in my rifle. I heard Saiga can take standard bulgy mags with out mods while others say they need to have modifications. I think my best bet may be the SLR-105 in 5.45 but in the SHTF situation I would prefer the common 5.56.

The Saiga does take modification to function with bulgies. Arsenal 106 is 5.56 and uses bulgy mags (clear or black). If the price is of concern they are comming out with a fix stock version that is supposed to knock $100-$150 or so off the price tag.
I am with you the min. amount of calibers I have to stock has great appeal. As a matter of fact it has guided my firearms purchases for many a moon now. I think that the 5.45 is a good round, but am not willing to go there from the satand point of the  standardized calibers that I stock. If I were you I would hold out for what you want in 5.56. Just my $0.02.

No I just figured a 1.6 receiver would still weigh less than the milled version.
I like the rumor mill of a 5.56 stamped receiver, care to elaborate? If I could get a BAN version of an Arsenal 5.56, I woud not mind forking over the dough.
