Here's another question that I'm sure has been asked a lot, but I couldn't find anything in the search function: When looking at the OOW page for their receivers, they list the 7.62x39 "AKM" receiver, and the 5.45 "AKS" receiver. I remember an explanation from these before, but what's the difference between an AK-74 and an AKS-74?? Same for an AK-47 and an AKM-47? Also, is ITM a seperate entity from OOW? |
| The AKS-74 is the folding stock version of the AK-74, but the receivers you speak of aren't really labeled for particular variants. I'm not sure why the call it the AKS, as there isn't anything inherently AKS about it. Just think of them as the AKM adn AK-74 receivers. As for the ITM thing, I beleive they are one and the same. |

like ajjer said, the aks is the russian designation for a folding stock akm. to oow, it's just to differentiat the 7.62 (akm) from the 5.45 (aks) receiver. itm is a sub-tier supplier to oow. once upon a time, itm was going to build a nearly 100% usa content ak...untill they figured out no one would pay $2k for it. somewhere around here, i still have a flyer for it i picked up after checking out a prototype at an ogca show. |
