I got one and don't seem to be able to install it.  The instructions tell me to "remove" my recoil spring from the guide-rod, but it doesn't say how...

Can anyone who has had experience with this advice me?

Thanks!

You can remove the recoil spring from the guide rod.  Just pull the spring back from the tip of the rod and remove the little nut.  Then the spring will slip right off.

However, you probably shouldn't need to do that.  The buffers that I have seen just slip on over the spring and guide rod...

The buffer I have slips over the spring the instructions say to remove the recoil spring assembly from the rifle not the spring from the assembly. If you have to take it apart go to(  http://www.ak-47.net/ak47/comp/recoil.php ) but getting it back together is a pain in the ass.

Is your buffer a buffertech or blackjack buffer ?? The buffertach is usually about 1/2in. thick and may or may not cause feeding problems with your particular rifle. The blackjack buffer is 1/4in. thick and less likely to cause feeding issues.

I just switched from buffertech to blackjack not too long ago but haven't got out to do any shooting with it lately. Others will be along shortly to tell you what a waste of $$ a buffer is but I have yet to find any evidence where it hurts anything.

The blackjack units just slip on over the spring, the buffertech you have to remove the spring as mentioned above and then put it all back together.

Very simple.  Compress the spring, where the two two pieces of the guide rods come together, bend into an "L" shape.  Now your spring is captive and the end nut will come off easily when you pull the ends of the rod apart.  Slowly allow the rod to straighten and the spring comes off.  Install the buffer, and reverse the procedure.

The only problems I had with my full-auto Chi-Com Type 56-1 in 20 yrs., is when I put in the thicker buffer mentioned above. Failure to eject, causing jamming. Put in a thinner buffer and no more problems.
