Say I am not happy with the finish on my AK, how do people refinish AK’s? Do they take it apart completely? Do they unrivet it? Would you guys suggest getting an AK refinished?

Thanks,
Tony

There are many ways to refinish your AK. There are also a lot of products. Depending on what you want to spend, how durable it will be, how it looks when finished is up to you. People have used a cheap can of BBQ, or High Temp Engine spray paint. You can also have it “Parked” or Blued. The first one I did was my WASR. I totally stripped the gun down. (Did not remove rivets) degreased and painted with Brownells Semi-Gloss Aluma-Hyde II. (Follow directions on can). Looks nice but not as durable as I would like. On my AKM build I just finished, I am going to go with a bake on finish like Molly resin, Gun Cote or Dura Cote. These methods require a cheap air brush or paint gun and a compressor. So the choices are up to what you want to spend and your confidence. Search the web, there is a lot of info out there on this.
