I've looked at different options and I think I'm going to try to replace the stock on my SGL 20 with a side folder from KVAR...should this be a simple swap out of parts? Never done anything like this to an AK....Does the stock set come with any instructions?

Thanks!

If you're talking about the classic triangle (or polymer) folding stock, then no, it's anything but simple unfortunately.

The triangle folder requires the rear end of receiver to be modified to fit the folding trunnion and the latch kit needs to have a slot cut up front of the receiver as well. It's very precise work and requires rivetting the new trunnion in place. On the SGL20 it also means you have to remove and remount the scope rail. Not impossible to do at home but I'd send it off to a gunsmith long before I tried to do it myself.

If it's a wire folder then yes, they do fit stamped receivers just fine.

PS, isn't it about time you changed your name to SGL20guy
(don't change your avatar though, it rocks)

eta: If you're talking about the no mod side folder, then yeah, that is a drop in stock just like the wire folder.

I had my S12 converted by a local guy here in Houston, Keith at Tac47Industries.com

He basically gave it the full works, welded old FCG holes, side folder, magwell and front sight post. Cost was pretty reasonable and the work is really nice. If I do get a folder for my SGL31 he will probably be the one to do it as well.

Email him or drop him a line. He's good people.
