I have a couple of AKs that need refinishing and some other work. Rich of CGWgun out in Nevada did a great job on my FAL and I'd not hesitate to send him an AK if all I needed was refinishing. Is it legal to take a ban era AK and have the silly barrel end thread cap removed so a muzzle brake or flash hider can be installed? I'd like to do that to my Maadi. If anyone has a recommendation on someone who does great AK work, I'd appreciate contact info for that person. If there is anyone in the north FL/south GA area, that would be a real bonus. Thanks! |

Yes you can take the end cap off. You are not in a Commie state that has its own AWB. I do not know of anyone in N Fla or Ga but CMP Armory would be a good choice IMO. They are in NC. |
I've got three guns done by Chris and he is GREAT... However he is also very expensive. You must weigh what you will use the gun for before sending it to him. I would now use his guns as show pieces and find someone else to build a heavy use shooter. Chris's work is more like art! Spooky |

Just got my Maadi back from AK-103. Awesome job by Chris - the man is an artist! He removed the barrel thread cap, straightened the canted FSB and replaced a bent rear sight. I can't even tell that he worked on the gun, the finish is beautiful and it's great to have a straight shooter. HIGHLY recommend AK-103! Thanks for the recommendation gents! |
| CarlosC - I consider myself a reasonably talented and capable guy. The barrel thread cap on the Maadi was welded on very heavily in two places. Even if I had gotten it off, there would have been all that weld rod material left on the threads that would have prevented installation of a brake or flash hider which is the reason I sent it to AK-103 - plus the canted FSB and rear sight. After all that work was completed, the bluing was beautifully touched up. I don't have the talent to do that kind of quality work. |

Mark Tucker at Coyote Gulch Armory does some very nice work. I've seen many of his builds at local gun shows up in Western Washington. I own a krink pistol he built and the fit and finish is amazing. I have no idea what his backlog is like. I haven't talked to him in a while. He has some photos of his work here and you can find links to some of his other non-AK work. I've never heard a bad word spoken about him or his work. |
