I have seen two different rivet tools. One at AK-builder.com and the other at Gunthings.com...there is a big difference in price and does anyone have an opinion of these two? Does the cheaper one work well? or should I go with the other one. Thanks |

For the front trunion I use a bolt cutter rivet tool i bought on EE: www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=123&t=334001 For the rear truin. I dimpled the anvil of my harbor freight vice with a hand drill and drill bit. The formed head fits in the dimple. I clamp the receiver to the anvil. For the unformed side. I dimpled heavy duty pintle cross bolt I found at the local harware store. To the form the head I hammer on the bolt on the rivot. Not the easiest way but it works. Wish I could buy some round bar stock steel at the local hardware store. |

Just build one I made this. Using mild steel. The larger is a chunk of 1.25" scrap. The extension shaft is 3/4" rod of mild steel scrap that was laying around. It would bend when pressing rivets, so I picked up oil hardened drill rod 3' for $16 to replace the extension shaft. The 3' length was the minimum length at the supply place, I only need about 6" so now I have more scrap. The way that I have the head ground I could not reach the lower rivet in a triangle folder rear trunnion but was able to press all other locations. There needs more material at the head ground off to fit all rivet locations. The tip is tapped for 1/4 by 28 using 1/4" socket set screws for adjustability and different pocket sizes. I estimate the over all cost was about $25 including a 100 count box of socket set screws. I might even mount it like the akbuilders press? But I can press rivets just fine like it is. I decided I would build my own rivet press and have $$ for kits and ammo.http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/tangotag/IMG_2310.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/tangotag/IMG_2309.jpg |
