Now that I've got my press together, it's practice time. I've got a rifle that has become my guinee pig. I've broken it down and want to use it for assembly/disassembly practice. Now the question is what rivets do I want to use?

I know there is going to be multiple builds with it and I want to buy some rivets bulk. Now which ones and can I standardize my diameter. I am sure that the grip length may vary to some degree, but I'd like to know if I can go with one standard rivet.

If I can assume a few things, would one be that I could take a standard diameter say 5/32" or 3/16" and stick with one size? And the other question would be what about the overall length?
What would be appropriate? Or would I have to get several lengths?

I've been looking here for some flat and round head steel rivets.

i custom make my rivets by altering 3/16" round head rivets and eyeball the length to about 1/32"-1/16" longer than the k-var bulgarian rivets (allows a thicker and wider head to form).

the long rivets i cut down from c.r.s. stock or shorten the long ones we have at the shop.

the rivets i use are older than me! i just grab ones that are close to the commie rivets and cut them to size/diameter on a mini-lathe.

OK, so who is the dumb pollack. Would you rather enlarge a hole .004 to fit a 5/32" rivet, or take a 5/32" rivet and turn off .004" so that it would fit a 4.0 mm hole?

Well?
