| I had bought a kit build from another member, rifle looks great, however the problem I am having is the Euro mags I have are not locking up. Are Romy rifles very particular on which mags they will lock up with? It is built on an NDS receiver, for 762x39, so the mag well opening if fine. Just need to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they have done to fix it. I really life the rifle, and will post pics later for everyone to enjoy. |

My Romy G Locks and feeds any mag I load in it...Romy,Polish, Chinese, E. German...all function 100%. Unfortunatley I have no idea what's going on with yours but perhaps someone here has experienced a similar problem and can shed some light on the subject...good luck Hill |
| The mag problem you are having has absolutely nothing to do with the kit's country of origin. Mag fit has to do with how far in (or out) the front trunion is inside the receiver. If the trunion is placed too close in towards the trigger guard, you'll have problems trying to insert a mag. If the trunion is place too far away. When doing a build, it's important to fit the trunion inside the receiver using a magazine that has the tightest fit so that once the trigger guard and trunion are riveted in place, it'll accept all your magazines. BTW, I've found that Russian mags (with spot welded feed lips) are much tighter fitting than mags from other countries. You may be able to fix your problem by filing a little off the top of the mag catch release. BTW, what NDS receiver is the rifle built on? If it's built on an NDS-3, they have predilled trunion holes so the person who built it wouldn't really be able to adjust the placement of the trunion if it were off without egging the holes. This is a good reason for avoiding predrilled trunion holes. |
Yes it was built on a NDS-3. I was just looking at the problem, it seems that when you insert the magazine, the selector stop is to long. It looks like it is time to get out the file. I checked everything else, and it is working fine. If you pull back on the magazine really hard, you can get it to lock in. However, if you look at the magazines when you take them out, there are definate rub marks above the rear lug where it is rubbing against the selector stop. Thanks for the help. |
| I built a couple of Romi's on economy NDS-3 receivers. The first was dead on. The second I got a liitle sloppy and was tight. It doesn't take much to be off. When I loosened the magazine catch screws it would work fine. I could egg out the holes, but more work than just grinding the back of a couple of mags to fit for this gun. Just takes a minute with a bench grinder. Mags are cheap. My third on I will take special care in pre fitting before I assemble and try my best to center drill the trunion holes. |
Good to hear you figured it out. I've had to do the same on all my NDS receivers that I have built on. I'm currently building a Romy underfolder on a NDS1P receiver and found that all it took to get the mag to fit perfectly was to run some a sand paper over the top of the mag catch and the over the mag catch spacer and into the mag well. It only took a couple passes of a fine grip sand paper. I cut a thin long strip off the sand paper and just ran it back and forth. |
