Installed a bullet guide in my 5.45 saiga about a year ago and ended up taking it off the other day. The area underneath has rusted through the finish. Anyone else have this problem? Not a drop of corrosion anywhere else on the rifle; when i shot corrosive ammo i would wash the damn thing in the bathtub, dry it off and oil it up. Also, I have never shot the rifle after i installed the bullet guide only before.

Probably excess moisture seeped into the space and started to rust.  I'd try compressed air to blow water out of all the nooks and crannies and use a penetrating lubricant to displace any other moisture.  I think there's probably corrosion between the trunnions and receivers as well.  You could also use heat to evaporate the moisture.

pretty much this. Or, stop dropping in water and use a lot of elbow grease when cleaning.
