That is a fair price, especially if it is in exceIent shape. have seen them go for a lot more than that.

Thats a good price. If it's in decent condition and not all bubba'd up. I've seen postban SA85s for $750-850. They make a good project gun to restore back to AK63F glory.

Buy it now! I know where you can get the exact gas block you need and I can find you the front sight block. You will then need a stock set from Ironwood and send the rifle to Chris Butler to un-ban it. It will be awesome! Send me an IM if you need help with this.

Congrats!! You will love the rifle. I have had a couple of them over the years and they are probably the smoothest AK going.

What did you end up finding for parts? I always used Hungarian front sights and East German gas blocks... but lately both have
been hard to come by.

Another member here recommended someone on another forum.. As soon as I took the picture though I found out the parts are too big for the barrel. So there no good. Which really sucks. I will look for a East German gas block though.

Too large? How so? Just from the picture I can see that those are the correct parts. Are you sure they are the wrong size?

I thought so too then it just dropped over the end of the barrel with a lot of room to spare.. It was really dissapointing. The gas block and front sight is Romanian I believe.

Waaaaaait a second.... you realize that all AK barrels are tapered slightly right? The spot where the sight and gas block are supposed
to sit are a little bit stouter than the end of the barrel. I would bet a large amount that when you get the sight and gas block removed
you're going to find they fit just fine.

I hope your right!

If you have calipers, just measure behind the sight and in front of it - I also believe you'll find it will be larger under the sight. Without any measuring tools, just take a white zip-tie tail and wrap it once around the barrel in a tight spiral, marking a line across with a fine Sharpie when tight. Do the same on the muzzle and you should see the mark now staggered because the muzzle is smaller.
That SA85M is a great find. I also converted mine but did not do the sight and block - it was more important to me to leave as much of the hard parts as original as possible because it is a straight factory assembly with nothing 'canted'. That's kind of hard to do without the factory jigs. I did thread the muzzle and install a muzzle attachment spring and plunger in the sight base. Other than that, I installed a Tapco G2 FCG and authentic buttstock and pistol grip. Mine is very close to yours, 171xx. I tried numerous attachments on the barrel, and finally settled on an original AMD65 brake. To be 'correct', it would have a slant brake, but I tried two of them and they both changed the POI. With the 'Snake Brake', I was able to move the sights back the original setting. This brake is not as loud on the 16" barrel as it is on the shorter AMD65, and it seems to enhance accuracy. The last time I shot it (with Yugo M67, rear sight on 1), I was punching out a 2" bullseye at 50 yds with the iron sights. I need to shoot it at 100 to make any fine adjustment needed.

I have this same rifle and want to change the front sight and gas block.
I also want to add a slant brake.
Where can I find the parts needed ?
