I'm buying a Chinese SKS-D Saturday and I'm wondering if it is at all possible to modify the gun and mags to lock the bolt back like it does on the regular SKS's.

The gun no, but the AK mags can be modified to hold the bolt open on the last shot.

Making AK mags hold the bolt open on last shot.

The bolt will close when you take the mag out, but it lets you know when you are out of ammo.

I modified one of my mags. Problem is in the SKS the mag sits at more of an angle than on a AK. The part that catches the bolt is sitting sort of low. So it works sometimes and sometimes not. Try it depending on the magazine you may have more luck.
