Well, I'm sure everyone has opinions. I personally really like my Yugo, but I don't have much experience with any others. Try Surplus Rifles for lots of information. The SKS is a pretty poplular rifle over there, and there are some very knowlegable guys in the SKS section of the forums, particularly a guy named Burner. From what I've heard, the best quality is Russian, but they are hard to find. Next down, with as good or almost as good as Russian is the Yugos. As far as the Albanians and Chinese, I've heard mixed reports about them as to quality, so I have no idea which is better or worse. If you're looking to get one, I'd say go find a Yugo and hop on it, excellent rifles, and still can be had a for under $200 easily, possibly under $150. |

you may want to try and find a romanian. i have one that was made in the 60's with a chrome lined barrel. really nice milled rifle, all matching and has the same specs and is interchangable with the chinese and russian models. the yugo uses a different gas tube and piston - this is also true with the albanian, and i am unsure as to whether the albanians and yugos are compatible with each other. though i do not think they are judging by the pictures of them, i have never handled an albanian. i am sure someone here knows. the yugos do not have chrome lined barrels. in my opinion, the old romanian's are almost as good as the russian's - the russians have better looking furniture. i did not like the quality of the chinese model that i owned, it had some feeding issues. but i do hear positive things bout the chinese versions. i have a chinese ak-47 and it is rather nice. also, i think there are a lot more surplus parts from russia, romania and china. mp |
