Hello, this has probably been discussed at some time or another, but what can be done to make the AK safety more user-friendly? I have an AK with the left side thumb safety , along with the typical safety arm on on right side of the receiver. Can the safety assembly be made to work smoother? The AK I have now is built on the AUSA receiver if that matters. Many thanks.

Probably the Krebs enhanced safety, which you can get from krebs custom, and a number of other places that sell them for a bit less.
It provides a closer "shelf" for finger engagement and a BHO cutout.
As far as smoother function, try bending it away from the receiver until it is easier to manipulate with 1 finger.

This added shelf doesn't work well for underfolders, does it?

Anyone know if the MK VII would work with right side folders? My WASR 10/63 has a Romanian lever folder.

Nice design. Very similar to what I was designing for an engineering class. Never made a complete prototype beyond a cheap cut steel piece JB welded to a safety. Couldn't get the finger shelf to work right. While $70 is a little high, it seems well made and durable. Never heard any complaints on Krebs stuff outside of some issues with Saiga's safeties.

Thanks. I will try bending on the long arm (right side) a little to see if I can get some pressure off. Just looking, that is the first thing that comes to mind, but I wanted to ask some with more experience with this platform. Was not sure if it would help or just help reduce marking the receiver. The thumb safety on the left side is in a great location for hunting, if I could just make it easier to use. It still has to rotate the same parts as the long arm on the right side, so it may just be one of those things that can only be so smooth given the rifle's design.

I appreciate all the help and information. Many thanks.
