Instead of converting my front end I am thinking of just installing a krebs ufm rail. My question is on a 16'' saiga 7.62x39 sporter has anyone just threaded the barrel infront of the stock front sight? Second if I leave the front sight will I have a clear sight picture with the krebs rail?
Thanks |

Just did mine 2 days ago..
Used 14Lx1 DIE and TAT from Carolina Shooters Supply.. Used pipe/tube cutter and cut back about 1/2-5/8" from muzzle (don't go beyond the 5/8" from the muzzle because even if factory threaded that would leave you a gap). A Rigid #15 type tube/pipe cutter will only get you about 1/2" as they hit the FSB front when turning.. <<FYI.. Make sure the pipe/tube cutter has a steel/ss cutting wheel.. Then thread it and be done.. order a 14mm / 9/16" crush washer from CSS (above) as well when you order the DIE/TAT and you'd be set (thats what I did)
Part of the 'sleeve' cut off to expose the barrel..
Threading done and crush washer in place with Damage Ind Comp/Brake in 14Lx1 threading..
After a quick Duplicolor DE1634 touchup on remaining 'sleeve' to cover the wheel mark from the tube cutter..
I'm on Saiga-12 forums as well.. you should go there and ask tons of questions.. tons of info and no how.. The other option if you want an AK74 style 24mm brake (make sure you get one with 7.62 opening Buy this from CNC Warrior |
