I picked up Romanian ones.  Did you take the gas block and FSB off to install the handguard retainer or get one from dinzag that bolts on.

If you want to install a handguard, you either need to get the bolt-on retainer, get a bulgarian ak-74 style gas block like I'm seeking (90deg), or cut the retainer in a way I'm not familiar with.

Anyone know if a tantal gas block works?

I don't think a Tantal gas block will work. I'm not certain, though. I would suggest checking at the Saiga12.com forums. Those guys will know.

I replaced my Saiga gas tube with an East German gas tube. It will require some fitting. I used a hand file, which took quite a while. I got my gas tube from E-gunparts in unissued condition for something like $25.

As for the lower handguard retainer, I took a Yugo retainer and cut the top open, removing the lock lever. I then recessed the left side so I could pry the left lip open enough to slip it onto the barrel. Once on the barrel, I tightened the lip up and installed a new lock lever. I test-fitted a handguard and then start filing. I'm pretty happy with the results. It cost me about $25 to get the retainer and lock lever shipped to me, plus a few minutes of dremeling and filing. That's way cheaper than Dinzag's retainer.

It's easier than you think, but takes time and patience. And I completely understand if you don't want to go cutting into the barrel of your new rifle.

Bolt on or press on? The bolt on should be simple. Fitting a gas tube should not be hard for you to do.  If it is too long just file a bit at a time.  I've had some that needed a bit of trimming down.

Try here. I'm not sure which one I ordered but they should be all the same. I don't know if you can get them cheaper elsewhere, but I had some other stuff to order so I went ahead and got one. I think shipping will put that right around $30. Probably cheaper than getting it through Dinzag, and E-gunparts orders are always at my door in about 3 days. They ship QUICK.

Lou, click the link in my previous post. It will take you to the gas tube you need. They are even located in New York, so it should get to you very quickly.

Here it is again:
