They work, but why give up the rear leaf when you can get an Ultimak

Agree, I have the Ultimak and it works great. Zeroing the sight is a cinch! I zero it with my irons at home and it was dead on at the range. Since it is low enough to cowitness with the irons, before a match or shooting event ,you can quickly check if your red dot's  zero is ok.

Does the Ultimak mount get removed everytime you clean the gun, requiring you to re-zero everytime you go out?  I'm unclear how this mount attaches.

To be honest, I'm a bit unclear how to properly clean an AK.  My first one it's on it's way, and I'm already looking into mounts for a red-dot!

Swab it out with a shotgun mop, or brush wrapped in a patch.

Their web site shows how it is strapped to the bbl a bit which keeps it very stable.

So there's no need to remove the mount when cleaning the gun?

No need to remove it.  I use a shotgun mop.

+1 Leave it on for cleaning. The guys at Ultimak are great too. They responded to my emails very quickly and were extreemly helpful.
