I'll be receiving a Vector stamped AK very soon from here on the EE.
Ques: Will this gun accept the triangle side-folder kits such as the one sold by K-var? Any mods needed?
IF I install a left-side folder, I suppose an optics rail would be useless as I then couldn't fold the stock without removing my optic/mount?
Why do so many AK's have the rail installed with a left-folder? Do they expect that you'll pop off the optic/mount every time you fold the stock?
I have seen the right-folding stocks such as ACE, but would rather keep the gun looking, well like an AK!
Sorry for the noobish questions, just would like some type of folder/optic without resorting to a scout type setup.
TIA.

Left does not block the safety or carrier handle, even with a big stock.

The $40ish Romy wire folder shares the stamped fixed stock rear tang, and goes right. Try copesdist.com.

Triangle folders need a rebuild for the front latch, not cost practical.

Or another reason to get the Arsenal Inc SAM7SF

If the vector has a fixed stock the receiver needs some pretty decent sized mods to take the arsenal made trunnion(side folder kit sold at K-var).  The front latch part is pretty easy.

Instructions are on Pookie's page

If the vector has an underfolder you can't convert it to use the the left folder unless you fill up the giant holes in the receiver used for the underfolder trunnion.  That'd be a lot of welding that would probably be very hard to do without warping the receiver.

Thanks for the link. My Vector is a stamped, fixed stock gun. Looks like WAY too much work just for a folder. Very expensive too. I think I may leave it fixed, or buy an ACE folder, but will have to decide if I want to cut the tang or not.
Still haven't figured out why all the 'authentic'-style left folder guns all have scope rails?
BTW, the Vector has no scope rail either, but that's yet another issue.

I don't have a scope/sight that attaches to the stock scope mount but from what I've read they are easily mounted/dismounted and hold their zero well.  So if you have to fold detaching whatever scope you have mounted isn't a big issue.  Ontop of that a lot of the good POSP scope auctions Ive seen on gunbroker.com come with a case/bag just for the scope.
