I'm very new to AK's but have been browsing around the forums a bit trying to learn. It seems like every thread in the optics forum is for different methods of mounting using the siderail system. Is there a reason this is favored over something like the picture below?

| Going fwd with the scout mount shown is fine for tube type red dots, and low rings give the potential to see irons thru them. BUt if you want a mag scope, you need to be over the rec. The scout scopes lose about half their fov to the fwd starting point, so the std 4x 30-40ft at 100yds becomes wtf is my target... Being over the receiver also balances weight better. |
