My son has decided to put a scope on his SAR 1. He bought a QD, 2 rail, side rail mount (maker unknown) from Amazon. We put it on his rifle, but it put the scope off at an angle, enough that the scope would not adjust far enough to be on paper at 50 yards. Sent it back.
Ordered another one from a different Amazon seller. Put it on. It mounts the scope straight, but it is more than a 1/4 off center of the bore.
Is this a common problem?
Any suggestions for a mount?
I checked everything I could think of to check, but there was no way to make the mount work.

Thanks for any ideas.

First, there are two types of mounts,

Many Com-bloc/soviet mounts are offset, about a quarter inch, to the left.       Don't ask me why, I think the reasoning is to allow use of iron sights with a scoped rifle.   Alot use them and seem to like them.

These are two mounts that are well-thought of:

Expensive, but if something is wrong with it, it will be the rifle.

What I have (at the moment).  I tried a QD and a clamp-down (same design, just differant locking) and went with this.

If a QD mount isn't properly adjust it could "kink" the rifle off.   Another thing to consider is the mounting rail could be slightly crooked (although unlikely).

I have the UTG "clamp-down" mount, and I need to adjust any scope I've put on it, as far right and down as it would go (Although they all did reach zero, the adjustments were nearly maxed out).

Dunno, but I hope something there helps

P.S.  What scope are you using?

First, two questions: What brand scope mounts did you try out and what optic are you trying to mount?

Another great mount is the BP-02 mount from Eastwave. They're built like tanks. Kalinka optics also has the BP-02 mount in a couple of variations but their site is down as of this post. You have other options such as an Ultimak rail for a scout-type mount a Beryl-style rail that Texas Weapons system makes. Those would be nice options as well. For my SAR-1 I have a BP-02 low profile mount I got from Kalinka but am thinking of mounting the TWS rail.

The kids trying to do this on the cheap, so the K-Var and the TWS are likely out. The BP 02 looks good. That will probably be what he'll try next.
The scope is a 3-9x40, 1" tube, standard eye relief. I think it is one of those J&G had on sale a few weeks ago. I don't know what rings he is using.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Sorry to be OT:

But: Many have said Kalinkaoptics has a virus on their website.  Just a heads up ;)

Hopefully the reason their site is down is because they are removing it.

I've never had an issue with this supposed virus.  I placed another order with Kalinka today and had no issues whatsoever.

Me too.  I have ordered both for myself and for my own side mount design business with zero problems from Kalinka.

What type of scope are you trying to mount?

And don't waste your money on the leapers/utg products.
