Got my new paratrooper sighted in and loving it. Now I just need to get a chest rig and stripper clips. Man, that thing shot really good!
What do you guys carry on the range/hunting with you're SKS? |

I usually take a tackle box to my range. It holds about 1K cartridges on clips and the loader for the AK magazines when i'm shooting those rifles too.

That's cool. The range I use is private and we can move around and practice techniques, but the main thing is there are no benches or anything. So, I figured a decent chest rig would hold some ammo while I move about the range and save trips back to the Jeep. I have a vest that I use for the AR and AK.
We were running drills after I got sighted in and my pants were about to fall down with 100 rounds in my cargo pocket.

The Chinese rigs come in 2 styles IIRC. One uses a small wood toggle that goes through a loop to hold the flap closed. The other uses two pieces of material which are tied together.
On those infrequent occasions when I (or more often someone else) run a drill with the SKS, the clipped ammunition is carried in two E. German grenade pouches (9 clips each) carried on the belt. I cut the closure straps off and had some Velco sewed on the pouch and flap so securing it would be easier. |
