Well, it was a nice April 41 degree day, zero wind in Kansas. Thank God for indoor ranges. I decided to take the new Arsenal addition for a test fire. Got two thirds of the way there and kept having this nagging feeling that I forgot something.

Let's see.....rifle, check, ammo, check, mags, check, targets, check, sight tool, check, pen, check, PK AS, check, LULA, check, camera, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Set the target to 25 yards, loaded a black gen 1 30 rounder with Remington .223 55gr fmj, cocked the bolt, rested, breathing, fire. It's been a while since I fired an AK type. Nice hearing that "clacking sound.

First three rounds landed 2.5" left of POA, dead center. Elevation dead on. Fired the fourth, and then got the loudest CLICK I ever heard. FTF. Looked at the bolt handle, it was a half inch from fully closing. Removed mag (A), pulled back on handle. Bent casing.  Reloaded, fired the first, then another click. Same thing as before. Did the same thing five more times through out with this mag. Unloaded ammo from this mag to use in another.

Adjusted the front sight with trusty TAPCO AK front sight pusher. Still have plenty of space on the sides. Not like someone else's flush with the right side.

Switched to another black gen 1 mag (B). Fired the first few rounds fine, then the same thing. Mind you this was aimed, slow fire. OK, switched to another black gen 1 mag (C), fired all 30 rounds FINE! Reloaded, with this mag (C), fired remainer of mag A's ammo fine.

The next black gen 1 mag (D) also had the same problem. Mags (E & F) worked fine. Funny, all these mags worked 100% in the SA M5 that I had. Now at Pipefitter's house.

By the way, this is one accurate rifle! 1-1.5" group, when I did my part. Then started to use the clear gen 2 30 round mags (A- F) ran fine. Forgot to use the five rounder that came with it.

Sighted in the PK AS, what an accurate rifle. It shot a half inch group with Hornady TFP 75 gr JHP (Dead on), and Hornady TAP 55 gr Nosler tip(1" high).

I then loaded up with XM193 55gr fmj, whoa......what a LARGE FIREBALL. Nice positive recoil from the hotter ammo. 1" group. Did some rapid fire drills, all within a 3" group. Clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack.

Fired Remington 55gr fmj, Winchester 55gr fmj, Hornady 55gr TAP & 75 gr TFP, AE 55 gr fmj, and last XM193 55 gr fmj.

Conclusion: Nice accurate rifle when the mags work. Got a few compliments on it with fellow shooters. Black mags going back to KVAR.

I'll take pics of the bent rounds and post. Alas, my picture posting foo is not strong, so, will need help.

I didn't shoot any steal case Monarch, since the indoor range bans that stuff, so maybe the cases will not FTF, like the brass cased ammo. Nothing like a warm gun.

Looks oddly familar:

These were from the first time I took my SLR 106F out. I was using the black polymer mags too, but I'm almost certain that isn't an issue. The probelm for me was the bolt wouldn't close all the way sometimes because there was resistance. I'm 99% sure the cluprit was that greasey stuff they used to protect it during shipping. I think it was what was preventing the bolt from rotating properly. I cleaned mine out, got rid of all the grease, and the bolt started rotating freely. Mine's been perfect ever since. Pull back on the charging handle about an inch and let go. If it sticks and doesn't snap all the way forward, I think your problem is identical to mine and the solution is just to clean the gunk out of the rifle.

The SLR106 is a great gun, and I hope you get yours working flawlessly like it should.

My SLR 106 FR does not like Remington green box ammo.  It's digested everything else I've fed it.  Federal XM193, Wolf Performance (Prvi) XM193, Brown Bear, Wolf black box...

I cleaned it prior to shooting, and re-lubed with CLP.
