Are these effective at all? I mean, they look so simple...
Just debating over getting one, thats all.

in full-auto, they help hold the muzzle down...but, the 7.62 x 39 recoil is such that the assistance given by the slant compensator (it really has no braking effect) is minimal.
in semi-auto, slowfire, it is more of an authenticity issue than one of function.

Your certianly going to gain nothing firing semi. It does make the rifle look 100% better.

Is there a brake that is most effective? I do like the looks of the slant but do any actually work with semi?

The Euro commie 74 style brake is best, better than the chinese, along with the US made version from ak-usa (on my SAR1).
