I am trying to get the slant brake off my M70AB2 because it has a gouge in it and I want to replace it. It shows no signs of being welded, the detent pin pushes in fine but the brake will not move. I have even tried wrapping it so it would not get damaged more and put a wrench on it and it still won't budge. Any suggestions? My next step is heat as I am thinking it might be soldered.

It seems like someone else on here had that problem recently. If memory serves, I think they said that cosmoline had gotten onto the muzzle threads and hardened, causing it to "glue" the brake on to the barrel. Maybe take a propane torch and apply a little heat while working it. That may losen it up.

I had one that was stuck good once.  Used a small pipe wrench to take it off.

Any more suggestions? So far I have gotten it hot enough that I burned my fingers through gloves and cranked the shit out of it with big ass wrench. The only thing I have succeeded in doing is chewing up the brake even worse than it was. It will not move.

You know this is a reverse thread right?

Yup, turning it, or at least attempting to turn it to the right just like all of my other AK's.

A relief cut and more heat and it popped of smoothly. Barely touched a couple of threads just enough to make them shine but no hard done and the new brake screws on with no problems.

I was going to suggest you cut the brake length-wise and split it open but it's good to see you got it.

Thanks, it was my last resort but at least it worked. I have never seen a break that stuck before. The one on my AR that was pinned and soldered came off easier. If anything around the house breaks I am now convinced that it can be permanently repaired with old cosmoline.

What was on the threads that was holding it on?

I am assuming a little bit of old cosmoline but when I took the brake off there is no corrosion or anything. The threads are black but clean as is the inside of the brake. It was either really really stuck from being on there for so many years or whatever was sticking it melted away from all the heating.

I had an old ar15 flash hider that was the same way. Could not get it to budge. I was cranking so hard the barrel was spining in the vise.  I put heat to it and locked down on the FSB and got her to crack loose.  Looking at the threads llike you said there was nothing on them so who knows.

Can someone tell me what size threads are on the Yugo (M70AB2T).

I'd like to replace the slant break I have as well.
