Are there any decent ways to mount a red dot or scope on my slr-95?  I've been looking at the ultimak, but wasn't sure how good it was?  It seems like it would get to hot on the gas tube.  Any pic's with optics on your rifle would be nice.

Thanks,

Have a smith put a rail on it. That is the factory way to scope them.

Has anybody tried the Ultimak?

I have an ultimak on mine.  I like it it's definitely a quality product.  Personally I think the only downside is that the traditional way of mounting an optic just looks better.  The red dot way out front there just looks a little out of place on an AK.  But they are a great mount for a red dot.

I have an ultimak as well..  on both my slr9 and slr105...    very solid mounts...  works very well...  only the ultimak as well as my scope gets pretty hot when I shooting for a long period amount of time...    other than that...  it works very well...   but ultimately putting a side scope rail would be a good choice...  my slr95 has pretty crappy finish on it..  so I plan to send it to AKUSA and have it refinished.. and at the same time have a side rail installed...  the red dot I use is a Bushnell reddot..  28mm tube...   it is a bit out of place being all the way in front..  but it actually pretty useful as far as target acquisition is concerned...  good luck with your project
