I discovered my Saiga in .223/5.56 has a spring loaded firing pin this weekend. What are the advantages of this ??? Thanks........

Supposedly, it helps avoid slam fires with softer commercial primers.

You must have a spring loaded pin for .223/5.56 Boxer primers. If this is true somone back me up.

7.62 Berdan primers do not require spring loaded but can use either/or . My Polytech 7.62 AKS had a spring loaded pin . I have heard Arsenal inc. is changing to spring loaded pins although my SA M7 A1 is not spring loaded so I don't know if this is true. The rumor was that there were posibilities of 7.62 with Boxer primers made in the USA so Arsenal wanted to prepare for this.

Only in that you can't have a really light hammer spring if you want consistant ignition of harder primers.
