Ok, I give up.

I've been trying to load 10 and 30 round clips for my SAR1 with stripper clips but to no avail.  Are these things only meant to be used with SKS's?

You need that little metal thingy that the Chinese made for AK mags ...

I have long term memory loss and cannot remember what it's called ...

In my opinion, the clips and adapter are a POS ... Sore fingers is all I ever got ...

Look at a "Lula Loader" .... Best thing since Fried Chicken and Cornbread ....

I'm going to go out on a limb and call it a stripper clip guide

oh yeah, definitely look at the LULA, those things are great.

Lula.  Best thing since air and water.

Lula = good. www.impactguns.com/store/858003000011.html

Stripper clips = okay in a pinch. www.tapco.com/product_information.asp?number=MAG0633&back=yes&dept=183&last=

I use a plastic "rammer" that holds 20 rounds. Put in all the rounds, hold tight and ram them down the mags. Repeat until full. Bought it at a gunshow and it works reasonably well.

the only stripper  clips and guides that work for a AK mag, is for the 5.45 ones........the chinese AKM guide is garbage, you'd be better off loading it by hand,  then fiddling around trying to make that thing work.

First off you need one of these

www.clearviewinvest.com/detail.asp?product_id=002-642

Then you need to check all your stripper clips to make sure none are bent, twisted, or damaged. Make sure that the cartridges will slide on/off of them with out hanging up on any tight spots.
The whole "trick" to using the AK speed loader might seem complicated but once you load a few mags you will wonder how you ever loaded mags without one.
You need to rest the bottom of the magazine on a hard solid surface. No matter how much you work out your thigh is not a hard solid surface. Hold the loader onto the mag with your thumb and fore finger. Your other fingers should just steady the mag. The loader must not move while on the mag. You must constantly push down on the loader while pushing the cartridges off the stripper clip into the mag with one fluid motion with the thumb of your other hand. Your thumb should be as close to the stripper clip as possible and rubbing the on the stripper clip. Just the rear edge of the mag will be touching the hard surface as you want to hold the mag and loader so the stripper clip is perpendicular to the hard surface like this.

The problem most first time users have is while pushing the cartridges into the mag the front of the loader will try to rise up. This will cause the cartridges to hang up on the stripper clip. You must be constantly pushing down on the loader to keep this from happening.

good tutorial, ja545! you left some words out though, so you might wanna reedit for posterity but you definitely got the jist down...

i use the lula for unloading but if you follow ja's post, the stripper clips are MUCH faster than the lula for loading mags (not "clips").
