If I use the same bolt that came with the rifle can I swap bolt carriers without being concerned about headspace issues?

It shouldn't be any problem.  Headspace is determined by the lcok lugs on the bolt and on the front trunnion, all the carrier does is rotate the bolt into the locked position, and there is plenty of travel to allow that with any bolt carrier.

Be sure, however, to dry test the carrier first.  Minor differences in manufacturing mean occasionally two carriers of the same type by different countries may not work as replacements.  I ran into that with an SAR-3 carrier vs. AK-74 carreir- both teoretically the same, but minor difference in the shape meant the -74 carrier woudl jump out of the rail cuts at the rear.

Dad has an '01 WASR 10 and when everyone started the polished bolt carrier thing, he liked The "in the white" chi-com carriers. We swapped the romy carrier for an original polytech carrier and "loose" chi-com piston and haven't had a single problem since. Actually it seems to run better and is more accurate. Don't worry, we took care of the parts count.Mad Max son of Madtechcool
