I just saw a Youtube video by hickok45 where he showed a video of an AR shooting tracers?

I've seen a few places that sell these.  Are all tracers for the 7.62x39 created equally?

How do you tell what's a good value?

I've seen them for around $1-$1.50 a round.

Many of the 7.62X39 tracers are made by loading US made .308 tracer bullets into imported cases.
The difference in bullet weight and diameter limits the accuracy of the cartridge and results in a different POI from standard cartridges.

There are a few different varieties of 7.62x39mm tracer out there. Some are reloads using 7.62x51mm NATO M-62 tracer pulls, some are new manufacture. All will do a good job of tracing, so it depends on what you want out of the round. My handloaded M-62 tracers cost me less than $.50 per round, but they do not match the balistic trajectory of standard ball ammunition due to the heavier weight of the projectile. If you are just wanting to blast some traces off to see what it looks like, then buy whatever fits your budget. If you want something that matches the trajectory of ball ammunition for target designation purposes, or similar applications, look for something that does not use the M-62 pulls.
