What is the best way to rivet the trigger guard if you don't have a jig?

Before I got a jig, I opened up the jaws of my vise and laid the receiver in it so that the rivets rest on top of the jaws, and the jaws hold the trigger guard sides snugly (put cardboard in there to not scratch things up). The idea is to control the receiver, put a something heavy on the other side of the rivets, and keep everything together until the rivets are snug.

Then you can reach in with an air hammer attachment and carfully pound the rivets. You have to be careful not to slip off and bang the receiver...

You can also reach in with a steel rod and pound it with a hammer, but this is more work.

The main thing is to make sure the trigger guard and receiver stay snugged up together or you will have fit issues (and it will look like a dork did the job).

I did a few this way, then sprung for a trigger jig. That jig is too cool. If you have a press, it's the way to go. It does all 4 rivets in one press and they come out perfect.
