The Pribor-3B carbine was a three barreled(Meroka) rifle and was the Soviet rival to the U.S. Project SALVO rifle programme. It was a bullpup rifle and took the 7.62x39 round as used in the AK47/AKM Assault Rifles.

The point of the Pribor-3B was the same as Project SALVO, To produce a 'Meroka' assault rifle since it will have more chance of hitting the target and a rapid rate of fire. Its recoil was quite high requiring the sights to be set in a particular angle.

The cartridge ejection was behind the magazine area since the recoil force was high so the bolt traveled far back ejecting the spent cases downwards. This weapon has also led to the development of the AN-94 Assault Rifle currently in use by Russian Special Forces.

The designer of this weapon was German A. Korobov, who also designed the highly successful TKB-517, The TKB-408 and TKB-022 Carbines.

A 3-barrelled AK-47.

Outstanding idea.   That thing would be a fucking menace in CQB/MOUT.

3 barrels! Jeez, can you sight it in for two in the chest, one in the head?

In my periodic searches for pictures of AKs I am continually amazed at how often they tried various designs and modifications. It may be a 1947 era rifle but the Soviets were constantly fiddling with various things, trying to add things, get it do do different things, eliminate problems, etc. Did the US do that too?

Here are some pics of what I can guess are some early AK prototypes, carbine, overfolder and sidefolder. Can't give any more info or be more specific as the site was not in English.

Sorry if these are old news and have been posted before.

What do you think?
