Does anyone have one of these or pictures of the internals for that matter? The reason I ask is because this model has a left side selector switch and bolt hold open device. I'm kind of curious as to how the Chinese went about making these features. The only pictures I've been able to find on the Internet are external shots. I'm more interested in the meat & potatoes of the firearm. |

The Type 81 isn't an AK per se, but its an incarnation of the Type 68, which looks like an SKS but uses the AK's rotating bolt, but the gas system and 2 position regulator are unique to this weapon. The Type 81 is an evolved version of the Type 68, and it uses the same AK style rotating bolt and 2 position regulator. It is operated by a short-stroke gas piston and utilizes the AK's rotating bolt, so besides a few unique features, its farily conventional. While it utilizes "AK" operating principles, its not an AK variant, like the Type 56. Its an indigenous design which uses operating principles of the SKS and AK. The bolt hold open device is activated by the magazine. Keep in mind, the Galil which is a straight-forward AK copy also utilizes a left side selector, so this isn't necessarily unique to the Type 81. These are pretty rare rifles and I don't know if you are going to find pictures of the internals, as they are obscure and they could depict propriatary information. I can tell you after shooting a Type 81, the insides were rather unremarkable and fairly conventional. It sounds like you may have wanted to possibly adapt the BHO and left-side selector from the Type 81 to an AK, but both are currently availible in the M70 and Galil variants. |
| Ok, I see now, thanks for that link by the way, after looking at those pictures I can see that the Type 81 is closer in function to the SA VZ.58 (as mentioned in that link) than anything else, both pretty much borrowed the same aspects from the SKS and the AK. Well, thanks for your help. |
